 | Who is Biggy? |
Biggy writes "Who is Biggy, do you ask? Well I won't tell you everything but I can let you know a little about me, where I come from, and how I got into darts.
My name is Shawnee "Biggy" Thunder Pony Big Mountain. I was born in Michigan where I spent most of my first 18 years. My family was and some still are in the entertainment biz. My grandfather on my mom's side was a magician, and my grandmother was his assistant, along with the rest of the family. My uncle was a clown and ventriloquist. My mother was a producer, circuses and magic shows. My father is one of the world's best ventriloquists; I will post a link below. My dad's dad formed an educational native American dance squad with all my uncles and traveled the US educating people in native American culture.
I graduated high school in '96 and went strait into the Army. I put in 9 years active duty with 2 tours to Kuwait, 1 before the war and 1 during Operation Iraqi Freedom.
In January 2000 when I was in the Army I discovered darts, by accident almost. I was going to school to be a bus driver at Fort Eustis, VA, when my instructor invited me out for drinks at a local bar. When I got to the bar they were putting on a soft-tip dart tournament, and were sitting at an odd number, so they asked me to play and paid my entry fee. I drew a pretty good partner and ended up winning the tourney, and making some friends. The guy who put on the tournament was looking for a new player to fill a void on his team, and he asked me to join, and of course I said yes. We went to first place that season, and my darts just kept getting better and better. It was a handicapped league and after the first season my handicap went up so fast that I couldn't be on the team anymore, so I broke off and he let me use his team name, and started my own team. We then took first place. I went to Las Vegas to play in the national championships of the American Darters Association and did pretty well.
In 2003 I got deployed to the Caribbean for three months, and then went to war, so I had to take the whole year off from darts. It was in Kuwait that I decided to get out of active duty and join the Army reserve, where I still am currently. Since my wife lived in the Tri-Cities I looked for a reserve unit close to her house where I didn't have to change my job in the military. I found that unit in Tacoma, Washington.
So after the war I moved to the Tri-Cities and found the TCDA, and joined a team with Joe Marks. It was in the TCDA that I met Erik and he made me want to throw competitive darts again. I played team league in the TCDA for 2 seasons, while also playing in a soft-tip league and in the unrefined beginnings of the Singles league. Erik and I then got together and worked almost day and night to come up with and borrow and rewrite and write the rules for the now South Eastern Washington Darts League. Now I play only the SEWADL and occasionally some soft-tip tournaments at my local Moose Lodge and when I am in Tacoma (For the Army), but for the most part I play just steel.
Anyways I've probably rambled on for too long already and told you way too much information about me, but for the people who actually wanted to know, there ya go and thank you for reading this.
