 The Ultimate Backboard?

Darts & Stuff of InterestErik writes "Could it be that Dartstop Backboards are the ultimate in backboard designs?

Yes.

Though I started looking in earnest for a good backboard a little over two years ago, I must admit that in 29 years of playing darts, I have always admired the 'pub' quality backboards that were only available through beer distributors. It seemed as if us 'normal' people couldn't get anything really decent, except perhaps oak cabinets or something similar.

In fact, I usually made my own backboards out of plywood and paint but they always looked horrible after a short while.

Then I began to really look for backboards, not cabinets, because I throw enough at home to find it irritating to always have to open up the cabinet to play. Rather, I prefer to hit the spot lamp switch (don't you have one of those?) and begin throwing.

I've always wanted to recreate a tournament board setup, or pub quality setup in my house so that when I am practicing it is closer to what I'd expect in major shoots or league matches. I also wanted something that looked nice in my new 350 square foot room; something a little more professional.

Over a year ago I found an advertisement for Dart-Stop Backboards and as many know, I didn't buy one at the time. I waited and lived the expression 'If you sit on the fence the only thing you'll get is splinters in your rear'. True enough - True enough.

Then chance happened and I was sent a backboard from Dart-Stop to evaluate and I have to tell you, I am planning a purchase of my second, soon!

If you are looking for a top quality, good-looking, professional backboard that will last as long as you will, this is the one to buy. I will never have to buy another backboard. I will never be found sneaking down dark alleyways looking for a black-market dart dealer...wait, scratch that! OK, so the point is, I won't be looking for a backboard anymore and my only issue now is whether I want a set of round or octagons shaped backboards. I like round, but the octagons are cool too. Damn, decisions, decisions.

The Dart-Stop Backboard comes with real -- I mean REAL English instructions that anyone can follow, and the mounting hardware including a recessed board hanger. They are easy to install and VERY solid.

My advice? If you are looking for a backboard to hang at home or in the pub there's no point in looking any further. Just click the Dart-Stop banner above and head to their website, choose a shape and color, select a shipping method (I received mine in two days) and voila, you’re done!

I guarantee you will be quite satisfied.

Erik

So, I've got this backboard on the wall and have thrown at it for an hour or so, but decided I needed to test it out more directly.

I sharpened up my 23 gram Unicorns and began throwing them at the backboard itself, purposefully missing the dartboard. They would not stick (though some will depending on how sharp the dart is and how hard it is thrown), they did not leave holes and left the backboard totally unscathed! Nice.

When the darts hit the dartboard they give a nice solid 'Thunk' clearly hitting a solid ungiving surface. Nice.

I can see this backboard lasting a long time and looking great over long periods becuase no matter how often you miss, I can't see your darts damanging the backboard itself. Now that is a nice feature.

I was really tired of the poor quality backboards I'd used in the past and can now throw them out! I won't be needing them any longer.

Ever thought it was nice to hear the 'thunk' of darts hitting a solidly mounted dartboard? Me too.

I was practicing this evening and the sound of the darts hitting the board with the Dart-Stop Backboard behind it was a solid 'thunk, thunk, thunk'.

I continue to be impressed by this backboard and it's excellent construction. Perhaps it is a testimony to things made in the US of A!

I cannot help but notice that their design is almost identical to mine that I made myself almost a year ago. Check out my blog for details on how I did it. But I guess there is nothing unique about an octagonal backboard. Look through the fist few posts in my Sept. 2004 archive for details:
