For those of you who are shooting a lot lately, and who also like the NFL, I offer the NFL Fantasy Dart League. Or the SEWA Football League - SEWAFL, nah that's "so-awful"...the Darters Football League, DFL.
Pick your team, first one to post here with a particular team owns it.NFL teams, current and defunct, WFL, USFL, AFL, AFLCIO, even CFL, whatever, football teams. Even Aussie Rules Football team names. There are some neat names from long ago in the NFL, you can look them up.
Let's not have a zillion (read: any) arguments about best methods of scoring, or what is best to practice, let's just play - pure fun.
These things always seem to make complete sense to me when I first post them, cuz it is all clear in my mind.....but after a while, I see where I haven't written everything I was thinking....try again:
Here is the way to play:
You start on your 20 yard line. You shoot your three darts, scoring as normal, anywhere on the board. Your score is your yardage.
1) Score 80 or more points = Touchdown, 6 points.
You don't have to use all of your three darts.
The Extra Point - it is a single dart at the Bull after the 3 (or less) dart round of the Possession that scored a Touchdown. Single Bull is a Single Point; a Double Bull is a 2 Point Conversion.
When you score a Touchdown on those first round of darts, you go to the next Possession, starting again at your 20 yard line with 3 new darts.
2) If you failed to score a Touchdown, that is you scored less than 80 points, but you did score 40 or more, that puts you in field goal range.
Take a second set of three darts (only if you failed to score the Touchdown with the first three) and hit the yardage left, exactly, no doubles required, to nail the field goal. You don't have to use all three darts though.
Example: from your 20, you shoot 45, puts you on the opponent's 35. Hit 35 exactly to get 3 points. (if you don't know the field well, just use 80 as the guide - you have to finish the 80, but straight out is fine, no doubles)
3) If you scored less than 40 points on the first three darts, you did not score a Touchdown of course, but you are also not in Field Goal range, so that Possession is over, no score.
Shoot four "Possessions". That's all.
A Possession is: You get your one round at the Touchdown [and then the extra point(s)], and failing that, the one round attempt at the Field Goal.
Maximum number of darts to throw per Possession is 3 + 3 = 6, so the maximum number of darts to complete a whole game is 6 x 4 = 24.
This is one of those things [read, "one of those BlackHorse things"] that looks complicated to start with, but play it once or twice and you will be fine with it. It is short and easy.

Post your team name and your score here. Shoot as many times as you like. After a bunch are in, I will throw the teams/scores into the usual hat and match them up and post the results and standings.
After a short while, depending upon participation, we will declare a winner on percentage points of win/loss record.
Nothing more, nothing less, not hard, not long, fun and easy.
Til people get involved, only one team per person. If there are lots of names left after a little while, you can choose more teams and fire away.
Shoot, play, have fun!! _________________ My darts were born of father's play, decades later to leagues then led.

I shot a game last night"
1-scored over 80 = 6 pts, missed the extra point.
2-scored over 80 = 6 pts, missed the extra point.
3-scored over 80 = 6 pts, hit the SB for the extra point, 7 pts total.
4- scored 43, left me with a field goal try of 37, hit it exactly = 3 pts.
Total: 22 points.
I'll wait til others pick their teams before I choose mine... _________________ My darts were born of father's play, decades later to leagues then led.

I shot a couple of games and these questions came up for me.
1. If you score 80 or more points on your first 2 darts does that mean that you have 4 darts to try for the extra points?
2. Can you use all 6 darts to make 80 and earn the touchdown?
3. Can you use 4-5 darts to make 80 to earn a touchdown and use the 6th dart to try for the extra point?
What I did when I shot my games was shoot 3 darts for the yardage or touchdown, and the next three darts for the field goal or extra point.
1. If you score 80 or more points on your first 2 darts does that mean that you have 4 darts to try for the extra points?
If you score 80 or more on your first two darts of a possession, all it gets you is it saves you an extra walk to the board! You can use your third dart to take your one shot at the Bull for the Extra Point(s).I can see I wasn't very clear on the Extra Point, though - it is a single dart at the Bull after the 3 (or less) dart round of the Possession that scored a Touchdown. My bad.
So no, no bonus of any kind if you score the TD in 2 darts (downs).
You only get one dart at the extra point(s). One kick, or one play, as in football.
2. Can you use all 6 darts to make 80 and earn the touchdown?
No sir. I am taking the approach that you have one series of downs. When you are stopped in football, you kick the Field Goal, you don't get another set of downs.
3. Can you use 4-5 darts to make 80 to earn a touch down and you 6th dart to try for the extra point?
Same answer as the one to Number 2. Note that if you are successful in scoring a TD, you have the one dart for the Extra Point(s), but then that is the end of the turn. You only get the three darts at a Field Goal if you have failed to score a TD.
There are not 6 or 7 darts per Possession. There are either 4 or 6 as it turns out:
a) 3 to score the TD, plus the 1 for the Extra Point(s) = 4.
b) 3 in the failed attempt to score the TD, then 3 to try for the Field Goal = 6.
Just to confuse the issue, as you pointed out, you can score the TD in only two, and also you can hit the Field Goal in only two, or even one! _________________ My darts were born of father's play, decades later to leagues then led.

It is always good to clarify, DT, and your questions illustrated that I hadn't worded the Extra Point shot correctly. Thanks. _________________ My darts were born of father's play, decades later to leagues then led.

Might be a couple of days before I get my games to ya though, that ok? Plus college football starts after pro anyway, so I've got a few weeks. _________________ TheOche.com Darts News
Yeah, Ricky, fine, this can be an on-going thing. But really, once you get the hang of it, it won't take but a few minutes to shoot a game. _________________ My darts were born of father's play, decades later to leagues then led.

lol, you sound like my wife! She'll buy something we don't need that regularly cost 10 dollars, get it on sale for 7.50 and come home saying how she "saved $2.50"...and I'm thinking the whole time "why didn't you save the OTHER $7.50 and leave it on the store shelf!"
I'm old Blackie...time is my most precious commodity! Well ok, so beer is the most precious, but I can make my own beer, I cannot make my own time...although that concept IS of interest...but I digress.
I shall send in the scores straight away sir! How often do you need them? daily? weekly? weakly? _________________ TheOche.com Darts News
Ricky - as many and as often as you like. I really do think it is a quick game.
Once someone "beats" your team though, you'll be firing games left and right!!!
I am looking for it to be quick and fun, and not dependent upon too many other people. Guys like you will make it work. _________________ My darts were born of father's play, decades later to leagues then led.
