|

Hey Guys, I have recently starting playing in a league composed of 6 man teams. A league night goes from 7:30pm - 10 - 11 pm depending on how quickly things go.
Now the format currently being played means that in that time each player plays 2 games of doubles 601 best of 3. And 1 game of Singles 501 best of 3.
So for my 2 and a half - 3 and a half hours I get 3 games...
Now I'm at the point where I would be happier getting a few mates around and throwing at home for that time. Selfishly? I'd like to play more games, and I would like to propose a change in format, to get people playing more games?
Can anyone out there with experience of 6 man team leagues, suggest some formats that have worked to be played on 2 boards?
I have discussed proposing a switch to 4 man teams with some people who have been around the club much longer, but they dont seem to think it would fly.. _________________ There Are No Heroes, Only Warriors

For that format it's about the time I expect it to take, Kiwi.
The Minuteman Dart League is
3 games of 501 doubles, 1 game per point.
3 games of cricket doubles, 1 game per point
6 games of 301 singles, best of 3.
I have heard of 4 man team leagues..check out the Mill City Dart League here, I forget the format but they require 2 boards to be used and I hear you throw a lot of darts. _________________ MMDL South Shore Area Director MMDL Lights Out! Thanks Podge sounds like it could work!
ABA - Cricket isn't a game played in comps round these parts so could kill the cricket and make the doubles best of 3.. Or make the Singles 501.
I like it
I used to play in a 4 man league - 2 games Doubles and 4 games of Singles all best of 3 501.
I cant figure it out here but there seems to be an aversion to playing on 2 boards at the same time so quite often on league nights there will be 1 game of singles being played with a scorer, and the other 9 guys outside smoking or doing anything but supporting their teams... _________________ There Are No Heroes, Only Warriors |

We play
4 single 01's
2 Double 01's
2 doubles Cricket
4 Singles Cricket
1 team game usually 1001
Now we can have up to 6 players but most teams go with 4. We play all 3 in each leg. I imagine you could easily swap the 4 singles cricket for 501 as the other 01 is 301 Dido and you could switch the Doubles Cricket for Doubles 601.I imagine it would be the same amount of time. The limitation is that you must have 2 boards and you are pretty much playing13 legs a night in about the same amount of time.
I personally would not 'waste" my time playing 3 JMO _________________ Kops League

The format relies somewhat on the talent level.
In the Raleigh, NC league we play:
6 x 1 leg 301 singles
6 x 1 leg cricket singles
3 x 1 leg cricket doubles
3 x 1 leg 501 doubles
We start at 8pm. The end of season tournament starts at 7 with all matches being best of 3.
A division finishes up around 10pm. H division sometimes not until 11:30. There have been talks of making A division best of 3 year round.
I think a fun format for '01 dominant areas would be:
6 x best of 3 301 singles (double start)
3 x best of 3 501 doubles
6 x best of 5 501 singles
Singles sets worth 1 point, doubles worth 2.
If it's 9-9, 1 game of 6 on 6 1001.
You'd be guaranteed at least 7 games (if you have 6 players exactly) and possibly 11 games. If you had decent shooters and scorekeepers that could add and subtract, I don't believe it would take too long.
This is just off of the top of my head so it might not make sense. |

I can't imagine that, the only time I have been in a league game where only 1 board was being used is when that was the last game of the night. But I also am only a "C" division player so playing only one board at a time would make the nights way too long. _________________

Two boards is a must, to get some good game on.
2 - 601 sido triples
6 - 3 singles (2/3)
3 - cricket doubles (2/3)
3 - 401 Dido doubles (2/3)
3 - corks call (2/3) (501/cricket)
Only recommend for top division or two. Lower divisions change (2/3) to single games. |

We use 4-6 person teams (and I try to only play on four person teams - I hate sitting!). Our league night is this:
Doubles - One leg of 501 DIDO and one leg of cricket (cork determines order)
501 Singles - Three legs of SIDO
Doubles - Same as before
Cricket Singles - Three legs
Doubles - Same as before
1001 - One leg, SIDO - but only if the match is tied (it's a free point to the winning team otherwise)
Overall, each round of Doubles consists of two matches (so four members from each team are playing) and you're not allowed to have the same partner for different rounds (which means you play exactly once with each team mate if you have four members). Each of the singles consists of four matches per type.
This is the format for our top division, lower divisions will play few legs of singles (this was done so that all divisions end about the same time).
What this means if you're on a four-person team is that you'll play three doubles matches (six legs), 501 singles (three legs) and cricket singles (three legs) for a total of 12 legs (13 if you have to play the tie-breaker game of 1001).
To me this is just the right amount. Anything less and I get cranky. |
