Playing Dart Tournaments Playing dart tournaments is an excellent way to measure your dart skills against other players. Dart tournaments can also be financially beneficial since they are often sponsored by online poker rooms and the prize money is usually quite good.
May the best man or woman win! |

 | pacmania-the epic tale of a new life for darts - part 4 |
dart_talker writes "Pacmania-II, Thursday, Day One:
This was a day dedicated to three “Blind Draw Doubles” events; 501, Modified Chicago, and Cricket. The highlight of these events were that an area soft-tip league player Dan Daugherty, who describes himself as an average player, made the finals on stage for two of the events and finished “Top 4” in the third on the strength of some great play and drawing excellent partners. The number of entries for these events was good, but no where near what had been anticipated with none of the day’s events exceeding more than 146 players."

 | pacmania-the epic tale of a new life for darts - part 3 |
dart_talker writes "Soon after “Pacmaina-I” the word was the there was to be a “Pacmania-II” and the prize would be $100,000 (a quote from an sewa-darts.com member – “Manny ... will be backing another for $100.000.00 over the June 19-21 weekend in LA”) in hopes that this tournament would attract top darting talent from around the world! The excitement was intense! However when the dates were announced it was clear that there was a conflict with several major world darting events:"

 | pacmania-the epic tale of a new life for darts - part 2 |
dart_talker writes "Rhen Fuentes (Pacific Darts Association) and Michelle Fuentes organized the event and Jan Turner (The Dart Shop) served as the Tournament Director. I must say that they did a good job putting on this event on such short notice, the time allowed to make the event happen was just one of the many factors that made “Pacmania I” a challenge. The size of the venue and the timing of the events were other issues that had a major impact on the flow of the event. Overall there can really be no complaints about the size of the venue as you get what you can on such short notice and make the best of it. The interesting twist in this event was that on Saturday the finals of the “OPEN SINGLES CHICAGO” and the “OPEN SINGLES CRICKET” were hold back until the end of the day in hopes that Manny Pacquiao would be able to watch them. This resulted in these events not being played until after 10pm, but it did not impact the standard of play as it was a hard fought win for Nico Depaynos of Walnut Creek, CA over 2nd place Rob Heckman of Vacaville, CA. in the “OPEN SINGLES CHICAGO.” The “OPEN SINGLES CRICKET” final was also great display of darts with Darin Young of Freeland, PA taking a win over Scotty Burnett of Sacramento, CA. Despite the match being played late Manny was not there for the match due to his training regimen."

 | Pacmania II |
dart_talker writes "To start I would like to thank everyone that had a part in making Pacmania I ($30,000 Steel-tip Tournament), and Pacmania II ($100,000 Steel-tip Tournament) happen! Both of these tournaments were wonderful events for darts players. I guess I mean, just how often do the top players in North America have a chance to compete in an event on their home soil where they have a real potential to make a profit from their efforts. However I am getting a bit ahead of myself. The story of “Pacmania Dart Tournaments” starts with Manny Pacquiao."

 | How Darts came and went: a Fable by George Silberzahn |
Charis writes "In the year 1960 there were a lot of bars and saloons and not many taverns or pubs and bars were gathering places for mostly neighborhood residents and the same people populated the bar stools night after night.
Some bars had a brass foot rail still and some had a spittoon still and a few had a Lady’s entrance with tables & chairs still and beer & whiskey was sold mostly and there were wicker baskets with pretzels on the bar and some sold sandwiches and some had soup and these were mostly gathering places for working people. | The Las Vegas Desert Classics |
Charis writes "For me the Las Vegas Desert Classics though a PDC tournament always were an American tournament – probably because Las Vegas for me is some kind of embodiment of America.
Funny enough or might be in the end not really funny is that from my outside view the Americans never really adopted the tournament – the qualifier is still after all those years dominated by the British PDPA players and it never attracted the American masses to watch – it’s really not well known for a lot of atmosphere it’s more the opposite to the Premier League evenings which have got almost too much.

 | What's In A Book? |
taechon writes "What’s In A Book?
To understand the value of a good dart book, it is perhaps best to begin by discussing pianos.
Let’s say we wanted to learn to play the piano, instead of spending our time at the local pub tossing arrows with our friends. I can’t imagine why we would want to do this, nevertheless, for the sake of this discussion, let’s pretend that we did."

 | How to run a Dart Tournament |
bob1936 writes "Running a fun Dart Tournament can at times not be to much fun. Over the years of running Dart Tournaments, (28) I have developed a computer program for a small (32) player tournament that takes up the whole day for Dart Players.
Many of you have been to WCDO Amateur Dart Tournaments over the years, (54 Tournaments) and we run these small ones the same way. All preliminary play is Round Robin, and the Finals Tournaments are Knock-out.
In this program you set a fee for entry, and the program will figure out the payout based on the amount of sign-ups you receive. You can also subtract any production costs that you might have, such as providing dinner, trophies, and hall rental.
I have combined this program with an operating system, and the program to run it, on a Thumb Drive that will run on Windows or Linux computers.

 | UK Open part 2 |
Charis writes "As on Friday the tournament again didn’t start till in the evening I had a day off from darts and of course I did what women always are supposed to do – I went shopping. Bolton is not really far away from Manchester and has a good train connection. I had already decided in March Manchester might not be a town full of historic sites but it’s definitely a very lively town and a good town for shopping. I was not disappointed!! "

 | The UK Open 2009 - part 1 |
Charis writes "Last year when I flew to Bolton I had Taechon’s article about Darts on an aeroplane on mind – this year it was worse.
Just two days before the Air France plane had disappeared somewhere into the sea taking all passengers with it into death. And I believe us all waiting for our flight felt slightly worried when we did hear the announcement that the flight would be delayed because there were some technical problems…Well, in the end we did fly with another plane – they couldn’t get rid of the technical problems whatever they were. | Cleveland Extravaganza ADO |
TerryM writes "Congratulations to Steve Polacheck and Brandy Bates, our Horizon Darts ADO Youth Fund "Be A Dart Star" Raffle winners drawn at the 2009 Cleveland Extravaganza. Be sure to thank them for supporting our youth. You can read more about them and the Virginia Beach winners at http://www.horizondarts.com/darts/main.html. Look for the ADO Youth Fund 'Dart Star' Raffle Winners.
We wish to thank everyone for their participation in helping our youth. For your effort, $235 was raised which will go to the ADO Youth Fund. This fund helps get deserving youths to the ADO Youth Finals in Stamford, CT. This year, the youth winner will represent the US at the World Cup to be held in Charlotte, NC in September.
We also want to take this opportunity to thank the Cleveland Darter's Club and especially their Youth Director, Sue Russano, for asking us to bring our Youth Raffle to their tournament and for all the assistance they gave us in holding our raffle.
Happy Darting,
The Horizon Crew"

terrym writes "Well, it's official. The next tournament to find Mel and I selling our raffle tickets for the ADO Youth Fund will be the Cleveland Extravaganza, May 1-3. This will be a great tourney to get a look at our future dart stars competing in the youth regionals.
We will be selling the tickets for $1 each and the drawing will be on Saturday evening. All proceeds go to the ADO Youth Fund. Our goal is to raise more money than we did at Virginia Beach which means the folks attending the Extravaganza have a challenge of over $335 to meet. ;>
Didn't see who won the first raffle??? Check out http://www.horizondarts.com/library/images/Tom-and-Marcia09.pdf to see.
We look forward to seeing you all there.
Happy Darting,
Terry"
